Cathya FranKo – Latin Lover
By Donna Ison, Wednesday, June 1, 2011Engaged couples that want to make certain their first dance is something special come to Cathya. During the first class, she breaks the ice by telling the prospective groom, “Here, you are in control. You get to lead. But, I can’t help you when you leave the studio.” The Latin Ballroom dance instructor has found that you can tell much about a pair by the way they cooperate on the dance floor. She says, “Some are completely silent and in tune with each other. You know their marriage will be successful.” Cathya, whose mother swears “has been dancing since before she could walk,” teaches Meringue, Salsa, Rumba, and the Cha Cha, as well as the fitness rage, Zumba. Each year for the Festival Latino de Lexington, she represents her native Peru by choreographing and performing traditional folk dances. When not teaching, she herself is a student studying Business Management.
